Dave and Phyllis Bauer

Family Concern Counseling
Family Concern Counseling was established in 1985, while Dave was Directing Youth for Christ. Since then, it has grown to one of the largest Christian Counseling centers in NW Indiana. Eight counselors provide a variety of counseling services. The agency serves children, adolescents, and adults. They have one sexual abuse survivors support group established and have plans to establish a men’s anger & anxiety group, a teen support group, a post-partum depression group, as well as another sexual abuse survivors group.
Dave’s main area of expertise is in marital relations problems, sexual addiction recovery, and parenting issues. He is also highly involved in NW Indiana Marriage Builders, whose goal is to strengthen marriages through pre-marital preparation and marriage enrichment. This group trains marriage mentors and holds seminars throughout the year. Dave and Phyllis have been involved in many aspects of these events including teaching and organizing.
Phyllis, who retired from Valparaiso Community Schools after 20 years of teaching, is establishing “Schools Tools” within Family Concern Counseling. The two-fold purpose of Schools Tools is to help parents of young children learn how to prepare them for entering kindergarten and to help equip students for success in the classroom using tutoring and parent training.
Dave and Phyllis have two grown children who both live in Valparaiso. Stephanie Miller and her husband, Todd, are involved at First Baptist Church. They have a son, Bennett, born in 2001. Stephanie is the financial secretary at Family Concern Counseling. Todd Bauer is an assistant manager at Von Tobels Lumber in Schererville. He and his wife, Rachel, have two sons Zachary, born in 1997, and Joshua, born in 1999.
